We live in a visual world, people are bombarded with visuals and advertising everywhere we look. Society has become accustomed to blocking out visuals and ignoring signs. This means to make people pay attention to visuals you now have to go above and beyond to get noticed. In turn the means visual advertising and graphics have come along way in the last decade.
This ad uses several different tactics to make it an appealing ad that gets people's attention. First they use an organized and easy to read format. The numbers are clearly centered at the top of each column. These numbers are attention grabbing because of there shear size and shock value. The colors are bright and eye catching, differentiating themselves from the surrounding colors. The small graphics tie in well with what the words are explaining.
According to the PAT model this ad is fairly effective. Perception: At first glance this visual can be determined it is a chart, depicting numbers and data to the viewer. This ad uses familiar pictures to grab your attention. The KFC logo and chicken bucket are easily recognizable. The format of the the chart is easy to read and understand. Action: This visual did a good job aligning the information so that is is appealing to look at. The numbers are centered and bold in the top of their columns. The number of words in each column are very equal making it so no one column is overwhelming to read. There could be more contrast in terms of making the title of the stand out more. It is fairly small and in the same font as the rest of the ad. The repetition of the columns is used well to display the information.
Tools: The colors work well to make the ad more interesting. It is much more exciting than if it was a plain white background. The small graphics work well. Especially because there is one picture depicting the information from each column. The type of font could be more appealing if it was used in a way that was still readable to everyone.
My intrpretation of this ad it that shows how much protein is consumed in the United States. One useful peice of information that could be included is population of the U.S. for a comparison number. This would help people connect the amount of protein consumed to the number of people and it might make more of a impact. The title of the visual could use some more interest to make it pop out more and catch your eye better. Over all I feel it was an effective visual.
